The summer months are made for soaking up as much sun as possible. Because before you know it, school will be starting and the weather will once again be cold.

There are many things you can do outside while enjoying the warm weather instead of sitting on the back patio. Here are three very easy and family friendly outdoor activities for you and the family to enjoy.

Take a hike

On the weekends, pack up the kids, snacks and plenty of water and take a hike. It’s a great way to get in some exercise and explore everything Mother Nature has to offer.

Make it a learning adventure by also bringing a map and some books on local plants and animals. The kids will have fun identifying the flora and fauna while you fill their brains with knowledge and their bodies with physical activity.

Park it

Don’t have time for a hike? That’s okay. Spend some time at the park instead. Whether it’s a play park or a nature park, the kids will have fun running around and you can join the fun. It’s a great way to get out of the house when you don’t want to travel to far.

Get your hands dirty

Another great way to spend time outdoors is to work in your own backyard. Planting a garden will not only give you plenty of fresh vegetables throughout the summer months, but it’s also a good way to burn calories. Even if you’re limited on space, set up a few containers and grow tomatoes, strawberries and herbs. Your hands will get dirty and you will feel great. The kids can help by picking weeds, watering and finding ripe produce.

Don’t forget the sunscreen and have fun outside!
